Young Country albumen prints

The Young Country exhibition at Mahara Gallery (1 Nov-14 Dec 2014) will include albumen prints of images by William Williams, made for the exhibition by contemporary photographer Wayne Barrar.

Albumen printing is a slow, painstaking process, commonly used around the end of the nineteenth century but rarely used today. As much of Williams’s archive at the Alexander Turnbull Library is in the form of negatives, this is a rare opportunity to see prints with a similar look and feel to prints Williams himself would have made in the 1880s and 1890s.
